Last year Sharif’s first feature film Casting Call was released on NPO3 as one of the six telefilms. The film follows Amir, a 23-year-old aspiring actor. Despite his dedication and talent he mainly lands in minor roles—often portraying criminals in crime show reenactments, where his face is blurred. In his pursuit of recognition, Amir’s impatience leads him straight into the heart of the underworld.

Sharif studied Media & Culture at the University of Amsterdam. His first short film, 7 Marokkanen en Jos (2017), is a sharp, socially critical film about a xenophobic white man confronted with ordinary young men with a migrant background. It was followed by Jetski (2019), about a twelve-year-old boy who wants to give his ill father one last chance to relive his glory days as a jet skier on the Red Sea. In 2022, Sharif directed two episodes of the TV series Bestseller Boy, based on Mano Bouzamour’s novel. Beyond fiction, Sharif also has directed various videoclips for artists such as S10 and Sevdaliza, as well as commercials for Adidas, Pepsi and Turkish Airlines.

Please note this event will be held in Dutch.
